The first annual Race For Life hosted by Ottawa BMX in benefit of the CHEO Foundation ended up being a huge success! Thanks to the efforts of our members and first time riders, we raised over $2,400!
I personally had a goal of $250, I not only reached that goal, but I beat it by raising a total of $290, a HUGE thank you goes out to everybody who sponsored me.
Kate showed up for the first two races but did not have her camera on her, so no pictures. We had a total of 6 riders in my moto, two of the riders were "new comers" to BMX racing, but were far from new to racing on bikes as they are both active downhill racers and road racers, this made for some great competition.
As usual, it came down to the third and final heat for me to qualify for the main event. Three riders remained, only two could qualify. The racing was incredibly close, coming out of the second corner, the three of us were literally touching elbows heading into the first corner, with me being in the middle. I can not do it justice with how close the race was without pictures, so I will be doing my best to track some down as I am pretty sure there may even be a video out there!
We had some great racing in the main as well. Everybody was tight for much of the race, I crossed the line in 4th place. My racing is definitely improving, I now have to work on the cardio side of things for training as it is difficult for me to make a push down the final straight at the end of the day.
